This gallery page currently features recent work. I have been making photographs since 1993. Visual representation is powerful — photography can record, rearrange and subvert perception of the material and higher worlds.

Night.

Night, 2020 - present

Light and dark, cars and windows, sky and trees, partially lit figures. These are the characters that take shape in the zine, Night. These images are a performance – of sensuality and longing, of the possibilities within darkness and light.

Within the texture of falling darkness, gestures and objects emerge from scant illumination. Ambiguous relationships move within the planes and angles of light. Here we find the shifting meaning of night – its depth, tension, and attraction.

Night is available in zine format here.

Skate Fam.

Skate Fam. This project features Polaroid images of my skate fam at our local roller rink. Roller skaters refer to their local rink as their home rink. A skater’s cohort is their skate family — like family, they laugh and confide, teach and encourage, play and challenge. Each skater has character and style — something inside them that is translated as their wheels spin across the maple floor. —Rachel
