“What would Jesus Christ think of Ares?” Beren asked me a couple days ago.

After reading D’Aulaire’s Book of Greek Myths last year, my husband and son have been in pursuit of more mythology books. They discovered The Olympians, a series of graphic novels by George O’Connor. We recently read Ares, Bringer of War.

Whoa, I was playing Barbies at this age. However, the story was incredible.

In addition, on one evening car ride we listened to Gustav Holst’s The Planets, Op. 32, an orchestral composition written about a hundred years ago. “Mars, the Bringer of War” is a particularly heavy and dense movement, which Beren jubilantly enjoys.

I think we will have to go to the Met and see some sculptures and altarpieces. There, we can ask the gods what they think. I will let you know what they say.
