How to Talk So Parents Will Listen

"Molasses milk left on the counter makes the counter sticky," my seven year old says.

I smile to myself and reach over with a sponge to swab the three drops of molasses milk, one of our favorite mixed drinks when we crave something sweet.

'Give information' is one of the techniques for creating cooperative situations. It is described in the book "How to Talk so Kids Will Listen, and Listen So Kids Will Talk".

Rather than a command like 'Wipe up that molasses milk', my son gave me information to help me to be cooperative and get the job done.
