I often do not photograph the start and end of our trips. The east coast has some ugliness that is hard to photograph, but this time, I made sure to tune up my eyes. Fracking, what you can see from the highway, is not pretty. Neither is industrial agriculture.
In between our magnificent National Parks are vast areas where people have rampaged across the land. The BLM lands are trampled by cattle. In between are privately owned lands. Barrens of houses. Soil blowing away. The water is boiling black.
102 hours of driving over the past month. Today was the final leg of our many legged trip: eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. I-70, 76, 81, and 78.
While stopping for our last meal on the road at Summit Diner in Somerset, PA, Beren said, "It's a good thing we went on this road trip...to get this cake."
